The Merrimac Housing Authority was founded in 1970. The MHA Board of Commissioners forged a partnership with the Amesbury Housing Authority and had the AHA use its expertise to develop, build, and manage the 48 unit project located at 52 Middle Street.
To the present day, the relationship survives. The AHA continues to provide, administrative, financial, and maintenance services to the Merrimac HA Board of Commissioners.
The MHA owns and manages 52 unis of affordable housing which is subsidized through a number of Massachusetts State housing programs. The inventory consists of 48 units of elderly/disabled housing, and four units of multi-bedroom family housing.
The Merrimac Housing Authority provides Massachusetts affordable housing programs for the elderly (60 and older) disabled individuals or couple, and low-income families. Merrimac residents receive a preference in the selection process.
